Baguio is a Cool Place
First of all, I certainly enjoyed my time in Baguio. It’s up in the mountains at around 5,050 feet elevation. It was sort of like stepping into a different country.
Here are a few quick observations about Baguio:
- The place is CLEAN! Wow. It’s the cleanest city in the Philippines that I’ve traveled to.
- The temperature is cool due to the elevation. Bring a jacket.
- The taxis are all the SUV type. The drivers always use the meter and there is never a hassle over the fare. It was refreshing after dealing with the idiots and scam artists in Manila.
- No bugs.
- Very organized compared to the rest of the Philippines.
If you get a chance to visit Baguio, I highly recommend it.
Best Place to Stay in Baguio
I stayed at the Travelite Express Hotel. The rooms are clean and modern. The staff are all friendly, professional, and there is good security.
The best thing about the Travelite is the location. Right next door is a great restaurant called Habibi’s. If you go there, order the chicken shwarma and the falafel & hummus plate. The price is reasonable and the food is excellent.
There is also a Yellow Cab Pizza and a couple of other restaurants next to the hotel. McDonald’s is within walking distance if you’re interested in junk food.
Next door to the hotel is Padi’s Point. They have live music at night.
The Travelite Express Hotel is within walking distance to Burnham Park. Make sure you venture down there and take a boat ride.
