I decided to find a different hotel in Vientiane than the one I usually stay at. A quick search on Agoda landed me on the Lalco AR Hotel & Restaurant. It had good reviews and the photos looked appealing. I booked a room there for one night to give it a try. I’m glad I did. It will be my go-to hotel from now on when I pass through Vientiane.
Up front, this is not a backpacker hostel. This is a nice hotel. No, the price is not the cheapest. However, the price is reasonable and definitely worth it. If you’re traveling with your wife and children, this is a safe, clean environment for them. It’s located about a block back from the roadway and is quiet. There is ample parking if you have a vehicle.
It cost us 150 baht for a tuk tuk to get from the Royal Thai Embassy Consulate Section to the hotel.
Arrival and Check-In
My first impression of the hotel was that the place is bright, clean, and has a very inviting feel to it. There is a nice little outdoor sitting area in a garden setting. Mangos hang down from the tree and if you’re not careful you’ll walk right into one. Someone wrote something in Lao on the mangos which I think says, please don’t pick me.
The front desk is quaint and the girl working there is very friendly. The dining area off to the left is spotless.
I went to check in and the nice lady asked me for my passport.
“Sorry, but I don’t have my passport with me.”
“No problem, you probably left it with the Thai embassy, right?”
She was right on the money. I showed her a photo of my passport on my phone and was good to go. I didn’t even have to give her the Agoda booking number. She already had everything on a roster. Within one minute, she grabbed the key and escorted us to our room.
There were no hassles, unnecessary questions, or confusion during that speedy check-in process.
The Room
The room was perfect. Here are some of the amenities:
- Clean restroom
- Shower with Hot Water
- Small table with conveniently located electrical outlets for your laptop
- Refrigerator with a few drinks already cold
- Toiletries provided – shampoo, soap, and dental kit
- Security latch for locking the door from the inside
- Lamp by the bed
- Good Internet speed! Wi-fi signal full strength inside the room!
Breakfast the Next Morning
Breakfast was included in the price of the room so we took advantage of it. The food turned out to be pretty good. I had the American breakfast which came with a fresh piece of bread—the size of a small loaf. The service from our waiter was five stars. It was a pleasant dining experience.
Best Way to Book a Room at the Lalco AR Hotel & Restaurant
The best way to book a room and get the lowest price is through Agoda. This is the only booking site I use here in Southeast Asia and highly recommend it. Try it and see for yourself.
According to the brochure I picked up at the front desk, here are the standard walk-in rates for reference:
- Standard Double / Twin – $35 per night or $850 per month
- Superior Double / Twin – $48 per night or $1,100 per month
- Executive B 2 Rooms – $57 per night or $1,300 per month
